Your child’s first dental visit with us is a big deal. You know that. We know that, too, and we want your child to feel special when they reach this milestone.
We welcome children as young as 3 years old to visit us. We have ways to mark this special occasion while they are here, but today we want to share some tips to prepare for that visit.
Teach Good Oral Care Habits at Home
When your child is little, you will need to brush and floss for them. As they grow, they will likely want to show their independence, which is a great opportunity to teach them to brush and floss on their own.
Role Play a Dental Visit
Your child may be confused the first time they come to see us. You can do a pretend dental visit at home, watch a video for kids about the dentist, or read a book about going to the dentist with your child. This can make the dental chair seem less scary for kids who may be anxious.
Come Well Rested
Schedule your child’s appointment at a time you know they will be rested, such as mid-morning or in the afternoon after they have had time to wake up from a nap.
Come Well Fed
Make sure your child has eaten prior to their appointment. As you know, a hungry child can be distracted. Knowing they have had a snack can make their dental visit go more smoothly.
We look forward to meeting your little one soon. Contact us online, or call the location nearest to you at 956-242-6745 for our Junction Drive office or 956-517-2695 for our Winfield office.
