Are you embarrassed by your crooked, uneven, twisted, or misaligned teeth? As we usher in a new year, consider giving yourself a new smile — one that’s straight, stunning, and that you’ll be proud to show off.
A beautiful smile not only improves your appearance. It boosts your self-esteem and subtly (or not so subtly) alters how you carry and present yourself. This can make the difference in whether you get that second date, and whether you’re hired for your dream job or passed over for someone with more confidence. When you’re not pleased with your smile, every interaction may be fraught with anxiety and stress.
But, maybe you’re wondering, will fixing my teeth require wearing conspicuous metal braces for two years or more?
No, it won’t.
At Davenport Dental Group, we understand that many adults can’t or won’t consider traditional metal braces. Perhaps you fear looking unprofessional in the workplace. Perhaps you’re afraid of being mistaken for a teenager. Perhaps you’d just rather live with crooked teeth.
We have several solutions that will realign, correct, or cover orthodontic problems without metal braces.
Texas-based ClearCorrect is an orthodontic system that, rather than using metal braces and wires attached to your teeth, fixes your smile with a progression of clear plastic aligners. You may be a good candidate for ClearCorrect if your teeth are crowded, crooked or rotated, you have an overbite or underbite, or you’d like to eliminate gaps in your smile. ClearCorrect has a number of advantages over metal braces:
- ClearCorrect is removable for eating and cleaning your teeth. So no need to alter your diet or learn a tedious new oral hygiene routine.
- Your ClearCorrect aligners are custom fit to your mouth and completely comfortable to wear. No need to worry about wires and brackets poking your mouth, and no returning to our office for uncomfortable tightening.
- When you wear a ClearCorrect aligner, most people will not even notice it on your teeth. They are that discreet!
- With ClearCorrect, most patients get the results they want in about a year. This is much faster than with traditional braces!
A dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain or other material that is permanently bonded to the front of the tooth. It is perfectly matched to your tooth color and sheen, and mimics natural teeth in how it reflects light. Veneers cover chips, stains, cracks, and other blemishes, giving you the appearance of a dazzling, flawless smile. Veneers can also hide gaps and minor alignment issues.
Davenport Dental Group offers several types of veneers. Traditional porcelain veneers give you fantastic, lifelike results. They require the removal of a thin layer of enamel, so are permanent. We also have minimal prep veneers and prepless veneers. Since they don’t involve removal of tooth enamel, prepless veneers may be permanent or temporary.
This is a relatively fast, painless, and inexpensive procedure that nevertheless can deliver fantastic results. Teeth contouring is a technique of reshaping or smoothing teeth by removing small amounts of enamel. It’s used for eliminating rough edges and chips and adjusting overly pointy or misshapen teeth. It is also useful for correcting minor orthodontic issues, like slightly overlapping teeth. Teeth contouring can generally be done in just one office visit.
Tooth bonding addresses many of the same issues as veneers, but the procedure is much faster (usually just one office visit), cheaper, and does not require removal of tooth enamel. We take a tooth-colored composite resin material, much like that used for composite fillings, and apply it to the surface of the tooth. We then mold it, harden it with a special light, make final adjustments to the shape, and then polish the resin so it matches the sheen of your teeth perfectly. Stains, cracks, chips, and other blemishes are gone, just like that. Tooth bonding can also be used to close unsightly gaps and hide minor cosmetic alignment problems.
If you’ve been living with a crooked smile for most or all of your life, now is the time to do something about it. And awkward, uncomfortable metal braces are not your only option. One of the doctors at Davenport Dental Group will be happy to discuss whether you are a good candidate for ClearCorrect, tooth bonding, teeth contouring, or veneers.
