Who Needs Cavities? Not You!
Tooth decay is second only to the common cold as the most prevalent disease in the United States! That ought to get your attention, right? These statistics reflect mostly young children and teenagers, but adults are also vulnerable to cavities.
When left unaddressed, tooth decay can eventually lead to more costly and complicated dental work in your future (including root canals and extractions). No one wants that!
But what can be done? Every mouth is unique and cavity risk varies from patient to patient. As such, we usually suggest a personalized preventive dentistry program for anyone already entrusted to our care.
Prevention always begins at home. You need to stop and think about what are you putting in your body. Are you consuming foods and beverages that are loaded with the sort of sugars that decay-causing bacteria thrives on?
Are you brushing diligently each and every day? How many times a day? And for how long? The American Dental Association thinks that you should be doing this for two minutes, at least twice. It wouldn’t hurt to do it more than that, when you can.
What about flossing? Rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash? These steps will go a long way towards keeping you on the good road.
And how about your dental appointments? Do you make them every 3-6 months?
Dental Exams Are Good For You!
Remember: our team has access to things that you don’t have in your medicine cabinet. Our high-powered teeth cleanings can eradicate all the tartar, plaque, and food that is left behind in spite of your best efforts to keep your mouth clean.
Our comprehensive examination of your mouth will also alert us to anything that is amiss. As with most dental issues, it is always better for you if we can detect cavities and decay before too much time has passed.
Keep in mind: so long as we are given the opportunity to regularly stay on top of your preventive dental needs, you won’t have much to worry about!
If we determine over the course of your checkup that you are at an increased risk of developing cavities, we may recommend dental sealants, fluoride treatments, special toothpastes, mouth rinses, and brushes along with more frequent cleaning appointments.
