Root canals don’t deserve the bad reputation they have. There are a number of myths about root canal procedures that are holdovers from a hundred years ago. Needless to say, dentistry wasn’t nearly as advanced as it is now. Today’s modern root canal is safe, relatively quick, very effective, and according to most patients it hurts about as much as getting a filling.
What Is A Root Canal?
A root canal is performed to remove infected dental pulp – the nerves, blood vessels, and tissue – inside a tooth. The goal of the procedure is to clean out all the infection and to save the tooth. The canals are the spaces inside the tooth roots, and to clean those out your dentist will use a series of very fine instruments called files to reach the very bottom.
You keep your natural tooth, which saves you the cost of an extraction, and you no longer have the pain that may have driven you to the dentist. In fact, once the nerves inside the tooth are removed, all pain is gone!
Once the infection has been removed, the tooth is sealed and usually protected by a dental crown. Unlike the vast majority of dental offices, you won’t need to wear a temporary crown. With our CEREC technology, you’ll have your permanent crown the same day!
Most root canals take an hour or less, so your time in the chair is pretty limited.
Demi’s Experience
Demi chose Davenport Dental Group for her root canal procedure. She was also kind enough to provide a testimonial video. Here’s what she had to say:
“I had a root canal done. I heard about this place, so I came to get it done, because actually to get a crown done in other places it takes like three weeks for them to get it for you. Here it’s actually in one day not even like two hours. So I was literally in and out with my crown and everything. I didn’t have to come back in three weeks. So that was pretty cool.
More like my natural tooth, like normal. I walked out very pleased that it didn’t bother me, and it was my like actual tooth. All the technology here is very high-tech. I’m just like, everything is done correctly, everything is fast, everything done quickly. Everything is a lot more advanced than it is at other places, I must say.
Now you can actually know more about your own teeth and actually get a good idea of what you need and what you don’t need, and how fast you need it. They’re very good about that here. I like coming here because everyone is so nice. They make you feel welcome, they make you feel at home, they make you feel like you want to come back, so that’s why I like coming here.”
Act Quickly To Preserve Your Tooth
If you’re experiencing signs of a dental infection such as tooth pain, jaw pain, or swelling, take action immediately. Dental infections can worsen rapidly and time can literally mean the difference between keeping your tooth or losing it.
