You’ve probably heard the term “family dentist,” but have you thought about what it really means? A family dentistry practice is one that welcomes patients of all ages. We are experienced and comfortable with young kids, their parents, and older adults as well.
We encourage you to make Davenport Dental Group your family’s dental home. We offer unparalleled convenience for parents and a wide range of services. You can bring your children to us beginning in toddlerhood, and we will watch them grow up and develop a deep understanding of their teeth and dental needs.
We Are Convenient for Families
Perhaps you’ve thought about taking your children to a pediatric dentist. After all, since they specialize in kids, they must be better for kids, right? Well, not necessarily. While we are not specially licensed in pediatrics, we are licensed to care for patients of all ages — and experienced and skilled in treating children.
As we are a family dentistry, your children will never “age out” of our practice. This allows for a lifelong continuum of care and a deeper relationship both on a personal level and clinical level.
At Davenport Dental Care, we treat everyone in the family, which means you don’t have to run around town to different offices for different people. Who has time for that anyway?
We Offer a Wide Range of Family-Friendly Services
Baby’s First Appointment
The American Dental Association recommends that babies see the dentist for the first time as soon as their first tooth erupts, or by their first birthday — whichever comes first. Because even that first tooth is vulnerable to cavities and decay!
If you’d like, you can hold baby on your lap as we examine her teeth and gums. Starting dental visits from an early age is about keeping baby’s mouth healthy, of course, but it’s also about getting her used to the routine of going to the dentist.
Try to schedule the appointment for a time when baby is well rested, and give her a light meal beforehand (brushing teeth afterward, of course)! Think of it as a fun experience, and your enthusiasm may rub off on baby!
People of all ages can get dental sealants, but they’ve been shown to be especially useful in preventing tooth decay in children. According to a report by the Centers of Disease Control, kids without sealants have three times as many cavities as kids with sealants. The procedure reduces the likelihood of cavities in molars by an astonishing 80%.
The technique is inexpensive, painless, and simple. After thoroughly cleaning and drying the teeth, we will use an acidic solution to rough up the surface of the enamel. This enables the sealants to adhere properly. We will then apply the sealant to the chewing surfaces of the teeth, typically the back molars. The plastic-like sealant creates a physical barrier that protects the tooth enamel from harmful acids.
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is vital for oral health. It prevents cavities and tooth decay by remineralizing and strengthening the enamel. Fluoride may be obtained through a variety of sources, including certain foods, toothpaste, and fortified tap water. At Davenport Dental Group, we can give you or your child’s teeth a fluoride boost with fluoride treatments and varnishes.
At Davenport Dental Group, we are well aware of the connection between what we eat and health — including oral health. We are happy to offer nutritional counseling to help you get your family’s diet on the right track.
Dental Cleanings and Exams
Don’t forget to bring the entire family in for routine cleanings and exams two times per year. We use high-tech digital X-rays, cavity detectors, and other cutting-edge equipment to provide a less invasive experience with superior results. We are skilled at making adults and kids of all ages feel comfortable and at ease while in the dentist’s chair.
