A Day in the Life
As a General Dentist at Davenport Dental Group, a typical day might include any of the following:
- Arriving at 8:00 am to huddle with your team to celebrate yesterday’s wins and address the opportunity to prepare for the day’s patients
- A CEREC crown
- A molar root canal
- An emergency patient in pain that requires an extraction
- Restoring an implant with a crown
- Replacing multiple old amalgams with composites or crowns with buildups
- Occasionally spending lunch with your assistants to participate in their training and to hear their feedback about how you can communicate better with patients.
- Checking hygiene patients and performing new patient examinations
- Creating treatment plans that are consistent with informing patients of their needs while providing the services that they want

A Day in the Life
As a Dental Hygienist at Davenport Dental Group, a typical day might include any of the following:
- Arriving at 7:50 am to check in on your schedule for the day and note any suggestions and/or opportunities
- Huddling with your team to celebrate yesterday’s wins, address the suggestions and/or opportunities and prepare for today’s patients.
- Personally strive to delight patients and families by creating a kind, gracious, and caring environment
- Learn and perform scripts at each stage of the appointment to guide patients and explain our quality dental experience
- Deliver clinically excellent dental care through quality education and treatment
- Promote dental health by completing dental prophylaxis, provide oral cancer screening and radiographic studies, chart conditions of decay and disease, and perform procedures in compliance with the Dental Practice Act
- Prepare treatment room for patient by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols
- Provide information to patients and employees by answering questions and requests
- Maintain instrumentation for dental hygiene treatment by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting instruments
- Select materials and equipment for dental hygiene visit by evaluating patient’s oral health
- Complete dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and from beneath gum margins
- Detect disease by completing oral cancer screening; feel and visually examine gums, use probes to locate periodontal disease and to assess levels of recession and expose and develop radiographic studies
- Arrest dental decay by applying fluorides and other cavity- preventing agents
- Educate patients by giving oral hygiene and plaque control instructions and postoperative instructions
- Document dental hygiene services by recording vital signs and medical and dental histories and charting in patient records
- Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
- Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques
- Conserve dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
- Promote a “team first” attitude by demonstrating positive and caring relationships and communication with coworkers
