Repair Your Smile With A Dental Crown Or Bridge
Dental Bridges & Dental Crowns in Laredo, TXDr. Davenport on Dental Crowns Read Transcript
Dental crowns and a lot of things in dentistry have gone through a transformation in the last five, 10, 15 years. Years ago, where everything was metal based whether it was a solid metal crown. We're talking about gold. When gold became expensive, we transitioned to some type of silver crown. Even our porcelain crowns had a metal substructure that the porcelain was baked on. Now, today, almost everything is computer imaged and computer guided and therefore everything is tooth color whether it's truly all porcelain or whether it's a tooth colored core with porcelain baked on top of it. The core is computer milled and then porcelain is baked on traditionally, but again, everything is moving or has moved to being totally cosmetic, totally aesthetic in tooth color.

Dental Crowns Explained
Do you have a tooth that is broken due to injury or even decayed? Dental crowns are designed to repair your natural tooth if it becomes severely damaged or decayed. We also use them to restore teeth after a root canal. We can craft a beautiful crown for you that will restore the structural integrity of the tooth, protect it from future damage, and restore your appearance.
Dental crowns are created from impressions we take of the tooth. The tooth is then cleaned and prepared before placing the crown and bonding it permanently into position. This is a tried-and-true method of repairing a damaged tooth.
How Do Dental Bridges Work?
Fixed bridges are dental restorations designed to actually replace a missing tooth. Bridges are made up of three or more crowns that have been bonded together. The end crowns are bonded to your natural teeth surrounding the gap, while the middle crown literally “bridges” it and fills in the gap.
Bridges, like crowns, are considered a permanent restoration that can last 10 years or longer. This is a good, inexpensive way to replace one to a few missing teeth. A fixed bridge will restore your appearance and functionality and ensure that your other teeth do not slip out of place.
Implant-supported bridges are similar to regular fixed bridges except that they do not use your natural teeth as support. Implant-supported bridges are secured into your mouth using dental implants! Dental implants are the most natural-looking way to replace missing teeth and are ideal for preserving jawbone structure and dental health. Crown And Bridge Material Options
For all of our beautifully crafted restorations, we use a single type of material that we believe is the best one: porcelain. While many doctors offer a variety of restoration material options to choose from, we recommend a high-tech dental ceramic material due to its durability and aesthetic advantage. Our porcelain crowns and bridges will blend right in with your natural smile, making them virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. We believe that crowns and bridges made from dental ceramic offer the best results possible.
Other types of restoration materials, such as PFM (porcelain fused to metal) and gold, are strong but do not offer the same aesthetic appeal. Who wants gold shining in their mouth or a black line showing near their gum from a PFM crown? Especially if a crown or bridge is required near the front of the mouth, these other options just are not aesthetically acceptable. Our team can help you achieve a beautiful, strong smile once more with porcelain restorations.
