I've always had an interest in science. I was at the Health Science Magnet here at Alexander, and I love to work with my hands. I knew I wanted something where I could be flexible and have a family, and I loved art too. When I was at Alexander, I took a dental class, and I found that I was able to incorporate my hands and artistry and science and helping people, which is ultimately what I wanted to do.
The most rewarding aspect of dentistry is seeing somebody smile, whether it be making them more confident when they weren't happy with their smile, or if they were in pain, they leave without pain. I was very fortunate to come into an office with Dr. Davenport, actually shadowed here. As soon as I walked through the door, I knew that it was a great office. He has a very loyal patient base. He treats his patients very nice.
Dr. Davenport's office has a reputation around town for being one of the best, so I'm very fortunate to be able to come here and to see and treat his patients. I was drawn to the fact that he's well known in town. He's had a wonderful reputation. I knew him personally, and I just enjoy being around the Davenports. So being able to work with them, they're very smart people, and being able to collaborate with them has been just a blessing." title="Doctor Catherine Martin on why she became a dentist and why she works for Davenport Dental
Dr. Catherine Martin has always been drawn to science, working with her hands, and helping people. She decided that dentistry was the perfect combination of all of those things, but her decision to become a dentist was solidified when she shadowed Dr. Davenport while she was at Alexander High School.
After graduation, she went to Texas A&M University in College Station and earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science as well as an International Certificate in Communications and Cultural Competency in Spanish. Dr. Martin continued to Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas to complete her DDS.
Dr. Martin loves this field because dentistry allows her to be an artist and create a smile that can boost the patient’s sense of well-being, both physically and mentally. She really enjoys being able to make a difference in someone’s life by promoting good health and renewing their confidence.
Dr. Martin was born and raised in Laredo, so she is excited to serve the community that helped mold her into who she is. She has worked hard to be able to effectively communicate in both English and Spanish. The ability to communicate helps patients develop a trusting relationship with Dr. Martin. She maintains a calming presence and truly cares about her patients’ well-being. She’ll do whatever it takes to solve the problem.
During her free time, Dr. Martin loves spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys dancing, watching musicals, and traveling.
