Root Canal in Laredo, TXCathey on Having a Painless Root Canal Read Transcript
Laredo is famous for having to sit and wait when you go to doctors' offices. When I come to Dr. Davenport, you have an appointed time and you're taken in exactly at the time of your appointment is specified for.
When you come here, it's such a wonderful experience with everyone. Starting with the front desk. Everybody is so pleasant. And it makes you feel really good that they are concerned about your time.
I was having a lot of sensitivity problems. With coffee, with hot drinks, with cold drinks. I didn't want to lose the tooth. Dr. Davenport recommended a root canal. He did replace the original tooth with porcelain. It turned out well. I was very pleased with it, and really it wasn't uncomfortable. I should say that I would highly recommend Dr. Davenport and this clinic.

Why You Might Need A Root Canal
Root canals are sometimes necessary when a tooth becomes infected. This infection affects the internal material of the tooth, called the dental pulp. Once the dental pulp becomes infected, your tooth might hurt, your surrounding gum tissue may swell, and you will experience general discomfort. To eliminate the infection and restore your comfort, we offer root canal therapy.
If you notice any of the following signs, please contact our office for an examination. The sooner we are able to treat your infection, the better chance we will have of being able to restore your oral health and save the life of your tooth.
- Pain when chewing
- Swollen gums
- A pimple-like bump near the infected tooth
- Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
If you do not have an infection treated, your tooth will eventually die. While the death and loss of your tooth will probably solve most of your pain problems, it will not do any good for your overall oral health! We want you to keep your teeth! Contact our team if you need help with a dental infection today.
The Root Canal Process Explained
A root canal procedure is actually pretty simple. First, we access the interior of your tooth and remove the infected dental pulp. During this stage of the treatment, we will also remove the connecting nerves. This will effectively eliminate your tooth’s ability to feel pain. We then clean the cavity to ensure that the infection is eliminated.
After the inside of your tooth is sterilized, we will fill it with a putty-like substance called gutta-percha and seal it against bacteria. We then cap the tooth with a dental crown to restore the tooth’s structural integrity and protect it against future infection. This process provides permanent results that, as long as you maintain good hygiene, will most likely mean a healthy, pain-free tooth for the rest of your life.
Will A Root Canal Hurt?
No! Root canal therapy is designed to eliminate your pain, not cause it! Before the procedure, we use a local anesthetic to numb the entire area. This means that your root canal treatment will be painless and easy. To help you relax further, we can even offer nitrous oxide sedation. When the procedure is complete, you will no longer be able to feel pain in your tooth.
