Avoiding Dental Care Due To AnxietyDr. Matthew Davenport on Relieving a Patient's Anxiety Read Transcript
We have a very kind, warm, knowledgeable staff. When the patients come and they kind of feel like they're going to be well taken care of, without any medicinal uses. I think that's a big component to it, is just being able to be comfortable with the people that are treating you. With actual treatment, the main thing that we offer is a nitrous sedation. That's something that, is it's an easy, very safe, it's in and out of your system in five minutes. It's not something that's gonna linger and cause any long term side effects. We feel comfortable treating patients with that to help anxiety.
Have you been avoiding a trip to the dentist due to dental fear or anxiety? If so, you are not alone. We treat patients even if they have not been to the dentist for years. However, you should know that avoiding dental visits can be detrimental to your overall dental health. By NOT maintaining regular dental visits, you are putting yourself at risk for serious cases of gum disease, dental infection, tooth decay, and more.
By sticking to a cleaning and exam schedule (we recommend a visit every six months), you are likely to prevent major dental problems. At these visits, we are able to inspect your mouth for signs of disease and decay and treat any problems that arise. By allow dental anxiety to keep you from your regular dental visits, you are letting those small problems blossom into larger problems. Let us help you tackle your anxiety and get the regular dental care you need. Your smile will thank you.

What Is Nitrous Oxide Sedation?
The type of dental sedation we offer here at our Laredo, TX dental offices is called nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is a relatively light form of sedation that is designed to take the edge off of your nerves during treatment. It is completely safe to use for people of all ages (that’s why we like it!) and it can help you get the care you need without any stress or anxiety.
Nitrous oxide is actually a gas that is inhaled prior to your treatment. It is administered via a nosepiece and can be adjusted as needed throughout your visit.
