Relieving Dental Anxiety
How We Can Relieve Your Dental Anxiety
Relieving Dental Anxiety in Laredo, TXDr. Vallone on Relieving Dental Fears and Anxiety Read Transcript
One of the reasons many patients don't go see the dentist is, obviously, they're afraid of coming and sitting in the dental chair. They've either had traumatic experiences when they were younger, or there's an overall anxiety of what exactly is gonna be done; people are a little hesitant to have their mouth worked on. Here in our office, we start off with a very welcoming, warm attitude when a patient comes in. We try our best to calm them down and relax them, and let them know exactly what type of treatment is needed. With all our experience here in the office, we've pretty much seen everything. We let the patients know that we're not here to try to inflict more pain, we're here to relieve their pain. If we can calm them down and relax them, and we get them in the chair, we offer nitrous oxide sedation, which is a form of relaxation, before we place any sort of anesthetic that can help any sort of apprehensive patient or phobic patient.
It's mainly a dialogue, a discourse with the patient, where we let them know what we plan to do and how routine so many of these treatment services are. So many patients are afraid of the unknown, they're afraid of what exactly we're going to do to them, and they think the worst, and in reality it's not. And so we convey that message to them, and the patients who allow us to work on them and trust us, almost every single patient at the end of treatment says, "I don't know why I was so afraid to come in. I wish I would have come in sooner. This is just not as bad as I was making up in my head."

I’m scared of the dentist. How can your team help me?
Our team is dedicated to providing top-quality, comfortable dentistry to all of our patients. We take the time to ensure your comfort and make sure you have everything you need. It comes down to the fact that we just care! We want you to have a positive experience at our office, and we are not here to lecture you or judge you. Our caring, compassionate team will help you get the stress-free dentistry you need.
How can you make sure I do not feel any pain during treatment?
Don’t want to feel any pain? You don’t have to at Davenport Dental Group. We use a local anesthetic before any procedure to numb the area and eliminate the possibility of pain. This is our first line of defense against discomfort, and our best! As long as you choose Davenport Dental Group and allow us to use a local anesthetic before treatment, you can experience pain-free dentistry!
Do you offer dental sedation?
Yes! Our team offers nitrous oxide dental sedation (also known as laughing gas), a light type of sedation that is designed to help you feel more relaxed and comfortable during your treatment. It essentially just takes the edge off of your nerves so that you can feel at ease. Nitrous oxide is easy and safe to use (just inhale it) and is great for patients of all ages. You can learn more about dental sedation by visiting our individual service page.
What other comfort options do you offer?
In addition to local anesthesia and dental sedation, we also offer digital X-rays (a more comfortable imaging system) and televisions in the operatories. These additional options will help you feel even more at home while in our care.
What will happen if I continue to avoid dental care?
Avoiding dental care is about the worst thing you can do for your smile. When you avoid dental care due to anxiety, you are putting yourself at risk for severe cases of gum disease, dental infection, tooth decay, and more. By allowing our team to clean and examine your smile on a regular basis, we will be able to catch any dental problem while it is still small and offer you the treatment you need. By NOT seeing a dental professional regularly, you may be allowing a small dental problem to turn into a much larger one. Let our caring, gentle team help you save pain, time, and money.
